Temporal variability of emotions in social media posts

Employing the metadata from 627,632 Instagram posts for Austrian capital city of Vienna over period October 30th, 2011 to February 7th, 2018, present study extracts sentiment, as well single basic emotions according Plutchik's Wheel Emotions, photo captions including hashtag terms. In doing so, an algorithm falling into category dictionary-based approaches contained in written text was developed and applied. Not only are overall polarity within investigated, but also top 54 Viennese locations. A particular novelty this is measurement longitudinal developments emotive fine-grained analysis addition polarity.
